Baseline Studies
of the NNPC/ Chevron Nigeria Limited Independent Power Project
Chevron Nigeria Limited a subsidiary of Chevron International Exploration and Production (CIEP) and operator of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation/ Chevron Joint Venture contracted Rain Forest Limited to carry out a baseline data acquisition study of the vegetation, lagoon water and air quality characteristics of the proposed location for the proposed Independent Power Project (IPP). The aim of the study was to support design decisions for the project as well as provide a basis for future impact assessment of planned project development activities.
The studies execution was undertaken in line with Chevron’s Operation Excellence Policy, applicable Sustainable Development (SD) policies, Nigerian regulatory requirements and applicable international standards such as those of the World Bank/IFC. These standards include requirements to assess the environmental, social and health effects of the proposed development, develop appropriate mitigative measures and also enhance opportunities for improvement.

Julius Berger Nigeria (JBN) Plc, a wholly Nigerian company is a foremost civil and building Construction Company. As part of its business plan to meet the demands for its services; it has established a transit loading station for aggregates (gravel types) at its Ito-ikin Yard located at Epe-Ikorodu/Ijebu-Ode junction in AgbowaIkosi Local Government Area of Lagos State.
Rain Forest Limited on behalf of Julius Berger Nigeria (JBN) Plc is carrying out an Environmental Assessment of their Ito-Ikin Yard facilities located near Epe Lagos. In compliance with statutory requirements of the environmental guidelines of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) and also in conformance with its policy on sustainability development, Julius Berger commissioned Rain Forest Limited to conduct an Environmental Assessment and prepare a report on the existing facilities situated at their Ito-Ikin Yard.
